Cooking class

Sri Lankan cuisine is one of the complex and unique cuisines of South Asia. Due to its proximity to South India the cuisine of India shows some influence, yet is in many ways quite distinct. As a major trade hub, it draws influence from colonial powers that were involved in Sri Lanka and by foreign traders.  Our cooking class provides you with an opportunity to learn more about the little known cuisine.

Sri Lanka has long been renowned for its spices. Traders from all over the world, who came to Sri Lanka, brought their native cuisines to the island, resulting in a rich diversity of cooking styles and techniques.

Many Sri Lankan curries are easy and quick to cook. The ingredients for the dishes we have chosen are available in most countries. We encourage couples and families to share this experience here so you can replicate it back at home. Keep it simple and social.

The hands-on cooking class starts at approximately 11am. You will be able to sit down to enjoy your creations at lunch time. You may want to go to the local market prior to your lesson with your chauffeur guide. The chef may be available to join you on your trip or you could take the opportunity to walk in our organic fruit and vegetable garden.

Cost $55 per person.  Minimum two & Maximum six persons.

Duration: Two hours

The curries: The main curries are Chicken, Fish or Mushroom. Green bean,  Lentil and spinach, aubergine & Gotkola sambal. When you sit for lunch we will serve you  red or white rice, popadoms and homemade chutneys.

You will have  the recipes to take home and we suggest you purchase the spices from a supermarket before you fly home.

Due to the restrictions with the numbers in the kitchen, we would suggest that you prebook and prepay your cooking class prior to arrival. Please advise your dietary preference.
